woven & dyed silk with Yokogasuri (Japanese Ikat technique)
Kasuri is the Japanese method for the ikat technique. It is a Japanese word for textiles that have been woven with fibers that have been dyed explicitly in order to create geometric patterns and images woven into the fabric. There are many kinds of patterns of kasuri in Japan. Here – the bordeaux-colored kimono – is one sample of the ikat of Okinawa.
